- Avoid heavy lifting and any vigorous activity for 3-4 hours following Botox treatment. The toxin takes approximately two hours to fully settle in, and increasing circulation in/around the treated area may prevent this.
- For 3-4 hours following Botox injections, avoid facial treatments. This includes facials, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion. A facial, peel, or microdermabrasion can be done same-day only if they are done before the Botox injections.
- Two weeks following treatment, if the desired results were not achieved, the patient should contact their doctor. Any sooner, and the treatment may not have had enough time to work. (It can take between two and ten days for the treatment to take full effect.) Waiting any longer than two weeks to see your doctor again is also not recommended.
- Exercise the treated muscles after Botox injection (e.g. facial movement, eyebrow lifting). This helps work the Botox into your muscles.
- Do not rub or massage the treated area(s) for two hours following Botox injection.
- Avoid facials or saunas for four hours after treatment to avoid raising your blood pressure and minimize the risk of temporary bruising.
- For at least four hours, do not lie down after treatment in order to avoid pressure being exerted on the treated areas (i.e. from your pillow).
- If you need to put on makeup following Botox treatment, be gentle with the application and avoid rubbing or putting pressure on the treated area(s).
- Be sure to schedule a two week follow-up appointment with your dentist after receiving Botox treatment.
