We recommend that most people visit our office for teeth cleanings twice a year (or once every 6 months). While you’re at our office for a regular visit, we’ll conduct a full examination of your mouth including oral cancer and gum health screening . Depending on your smile’s unique needs, a routine teeth cleaning may include:

  • The removal of plaque and tartar. Bacteria in your mouth and food debris combine to create a sticky film called dental plaque. If left in place long enough, plaque hardens into a tougher substance called tartar. This bacteria if left on your teeth and gums will cause inflammation in both your mouth and body. Cleaning your teeth daily at home can prevent the buildup of plaque, but a professional dental hygienist in Park Ridge can help by scaling your teeth with dental tools at the office.
  • Professional flossing. Your dental hygienist may floss your teeth during your cleaning, which helps to remove debris from dental scaling. This also provides a good opportunity for you to discuss your flossing technique at home and make sure things are on track.
